1. Our Overriding Principles

  1. Race within the spirit of the rules. You can see what we’re aiming for here so work with us. Don’t try to game the system if we missed a loophole. We want to find the fastest bike riders not the smartest sneaks or fastest salad spinners.

  2. Be honest with your stats and recognise that when we are eRacing the appearance of honesty is also crucial! Don’t mess with your height. Don’t lend your account to anyone else to play with. Don’t find a massive weight drop the day before the Alpe du Zwift race.

  3. If you think someone is operating outside of the rules, then have your Team Captain only come to one of the DIRT Race Control team and we’ll work it out. Pitchforks not required.

2.1 Rider Info and Biometrics

  1. Riders must have a fully registered ZwiftPower.com account that has enabled the sharing of rider data with ZwiftPower from your Zwift Profile Connections.
  2. Riders must have a fully registered DirtRacingSeries.com account that has your full name, correct Zwift ID and your DRS Role listed.
  3. Riders must have accurate height and weight entered in-to their Zwift profile, either through Companion app or Zwift.com. Weight reductions of >2kg close to the event will require the rider to verify this with a weigh-in video.
  4. Riders are not permitted to change their height, weight or any other biometric information from the point they enter the pen to when they exit the race.
    1. Failure to comply will result in a Single Race DQ for the rider.
  5. Riders should ensure that races in this series are saved as PUBLIC to ensure transparency.
    1. In the event that a rider is reported to Race Control, then Race Control will request the original ZWIFT FIT file from the Team Captain via notification on Direct Message on Discord or email. This will need to be provided within 24-hours and failure to provide that FIT file will itself be a Single Race DQ for the rider in question.

2.2 Rider Equipment

  1. All riders must transmit power information to Zwift.
    1. This can be done by using a Smart turbo trainer, Smart bike or Classic ‘dumb’ trainer with a separate power meter.
    2. Don’t use anything to generate power other than a bike or hand-bike (Ski-Erg and all power multipliers are prohibited).
    3. Not transmitting power information to the game will result in a Single Race DQ for the rider.
  2. All riders are expected to wear a heart rate monitor (HRM) that transmits data directly to Zwift.
    1. We do not auto-DQ for not wearing a HRM. However, if a review is requested for not wearing a HRM and you have a history of races with less than 75% of them wearing a HRM, this will result in a Single Race DQ for the rider.

3.1 Team Rosters:

  1. A team can comprise up to 8 nominated riders (all 8 can race!) of which a maximum of 4 will score points towards the Team Classification in each event. All riders who race in each event will score points towards their Individual Classifications.
    1. Once a registered rider enters a Stage, they are locked-in to the team.
  2. Teams must be made up of riders at or below the team category threshold the team is registered to.
  3. To avoid any unnecessary DQ’s we’ll check your rider’s data before each stage. This requires us to lock the Team Roster before Stage start. Team Roster changes can be done up to:
    1. Stage 1 – 17:00 UTC Friday before Stage start.
    2. Stage 2 onwards – 17:00 UTC day before Stage start.

3.2 Upgrading, downgrading, moving and deleting riders:

  1. A rider can only switch teams if:
    1. The rider upgraded or has been asked by Race Control to upgrade to a higher category.
      • Their team spot will become available for a new rider.
    2. The rider downgraded to a lower category.
      • Their team spot will become available for a new rider.
    3. The rider’s first entered (and if applicable successive) Stage(s) has been in a higher category than the rider’s Max 30-day ranking and the rider wants to downgrade to his/her new category.
      • Their team spot will become available for a new rider.
    4. The rider wants to join a team in a different time zone.
      • Their team spot will become available for a new rider. The rider can’t return to their old time zone/category combination.
  2. If a rider wants to withdraw from the Series:
    1. You can delete the rider from your team.
      • Their team spot will become available for a new rider.
  3. If a rider was deleted but had NOT upgraded OR downgraded a category then the rider can’t return to their old time zone/category combination.

Rider Categories are based on your 30-day maximum Race Ranking which can be found on your Rider profile page at www.zwiftracing.app.

DRS category boundaries can be found in the table below:

  1. We expect the best racers to increase their Race Ranking as a result of winning races. That is why we will allow racers to increase their ranking by a total of 200 above the category limit during the season and remain with their current team.
    1. For example: Gold 1 Rider has a race ranking of 1352 on the Friday prior to race 1. If this rider does well in races and gain a ranking of anywhere up to 1599.99 during the DRS season, then they are permitted to continue to race in Gold 1 (provided they didn’t increase their rank by more than 200 in any single race, see point 2 below). However, if this rider was to achieve 1600 by the end of a DRS race, being the full 200 points over category limit, this will result in a Single Race DQ for the rider.
  2. If a rider increases their Race Ranking by over 200 during a single DRS race AND that takes their ranking over a category threshold, this will result in a Single Race DQ for the rider and the rider will be asked to race up a category.
  1. Starting Pens are listed on the Rider Dashboard!

  2. General rules that apply to all racing formats:
    1. Use of techniques or equipment that would not be permitted, or not be effective, in real life cycling events, is prohibited. Although we recognise this can often be unintentional, the first offence will still be a Single Race DQ for the rider because the technique likely gave an unfair advantage.
    2. Use of an in-game bike, or any other virtual equipment, that is designed for para-cycling athletes by non-para-cycling athletes is prohibited and will result in a Single Race Rider DQ.

  3. Race specific rules:
    1. Free bike and wheel choice, unless mentioned otherwise in the Stage description.
    2. There are NO power-ups in play.

  4. Individual Time Trial (iTT) specific rules:
    1. Mass start with your own category.
    2. Draft is turned OFF.
    3. Free bike and wheel choice.
      • Unless mentioned otherwise in the Stage description.
    4. There are NO power-ups in play.
    5. The use of ERG-mode is prohibited and will result in a Single Race Rider DQ.

  5. Team Time Race Stages (Mass Start with Draft) specific rules:
    1. Mass start with your own category.
    2. Draft is turned ON.
    3. Free bike and wheel choice (TT bikes have NO draft).
      • Unless mentioned otherwise in the Stage description.
    4. There are NO power-ups in play.
  1. Leaderboards

    1. Team Classification
      1. Accumulated League Points of a team in all stages.
      2. In the event of a tie, then Total Rider Points that counted for the team will be used and were teams to still be tied then the team with the fastest Team Time Trial time would be declared the winner.

    2. Rider Classification
      1. Accumulated Total Rider Points of a rider in iTT and Points stages.
      2. Best 4 out of 5 stages (unless there are only 4 or less Points scoring stages, in which case all count) will count for the Rider Classification.
      3. In the event of a tie, the total Rider Finishing Points will be used.

    3. Specialist Sprinter Classification
      1. Accumulated FTS & FAL Sprint points of a rider in iTT and Points stages.
      2. Best 4 out of 5 stages (unless there are only 4 or less Points scoring stages, in which case all count) will count for the Sprint Classification.
      3. In the event of a tie the points scored in the iTT stage will be used.

    4. Specialist Climber Classification
      1. Accumulated FTS & FAL KOM points of a rider in iTT and Points stages.
      2. Best 4 out of 5 stages (unless there are only 4 or less Points scoring stages, in which case all count) will count for the KOM Classification.
      3. In the event of a tie the points scored in the iTT stage will be used.

  2. Points allocation in different Races

    1. Race Stages:
      1. Finishing Position (FIN):
        • FIN points are awarded to all riders finishing the stage.
      2. Fastest Through Segment (FTS):
        • FTS points are awarded to the top 10 times through the segment on each lap – in conjunction with the Stage description.
      3. First Across the Line (FAL):
        • FAL points awarded to the top 10 riders across the segment finish line on each lap – in conjunction with the Stage description.
      4. Total Rider Points:
        • FIN, FTS and FAL points are totalled for each rider to give the Total Rider Points.
      5. In order to rank the Teams the 4 largest Total Rider Points are summed and the teams ranked / assigned League Points in order of largest to smallest points.
        1. In the event of a tie on Total Rider Points then the higher place will be given to the team with the higher total FIN points for those top 4 riders.
      6. All riders must finish the Race within 135 percent of the winner’s finishing time.
        1. Not meeting the time cut-off will result in losing any FTS and FAL points, FIN points will still be awarded.

    2. Individual Time Trial (iTT) Stages:
      1. Finishing Position (FIN):
        • Points are awarded to all riders finishing the stage.
        • FIN and FTS points are totalled for each rider to give the Total Rider Points.
      5. In order to rank the Teams the 4 largest Total Rider Points are summed and the teams ranked / assigned League Points in order of largest to smallest points.
        1. In the event of a tie on Total Rider Points then the higher place will be given to the team with the higher total FIN points for those top 4 riders.
      6. All riders must finish the iTT within 135 percent of the winner’s finishing time.
        1. Not meeting the time cut-off will result in losing any FTS and FAL points, FIN points will still be awarded.

    3. Team Time Race (TTR) Stages:
      1. Team Finish Time:
        • The Team Finish Time is taken from the 4th rider to cross the line based on the finish time shown by ZwiftPower.
      2. Fastest Through Segment (FTS):
        • FTS points are NOT in play during TT Stages.
      3. First Across the Line (FAL):
        • FAL points are NOT in play during iTT Stages.
      4. In the event that a team completes the course with less than 4 riders then Race Control will place teams as follows:
        1. Teams with 3 riders will place in time order after all teams with 4 riders by way of having a 5-minute penalty added.
        2. Teams with 2 riders after all teams with 3 riders by way of having a 10-minute penalty added.
        3. Single riders will place after all teams by way of having a 15-minute penalty added.
      5. In order to rank the Teams, the Team Finish Times are ranked in order of fastest to slowest.
